Re: [RC] Mustangs-Interesting thoughts - Doubledal-I'll trust their knowledge and experience (and my own) far ahead of the "beliefs" of those who simply haven't been there to see or who haven't the knowledge of equine conformation to see.- Awfully presumptuous of you to determine that I lack experience or knowledge of equine conformation without knowing me and my background. -But most groups grew out of the throwing away of unwanted horses--many of whom were poorly conformed to begin with.- This statement proves a lack of knowledge on this subject. The history of the mustang is much more varied than just a few "throwaway" ranch horses. Mustang herds do take their numbers in part from ranch horses, often "maverick" animals escaped from their owners or stallions turned out to improve wild herds, but also from indian ponies, and they can even trace back to Spanish horses brought over by the Conquistadors, as genetic testing is now proving in the Sulphur and Pryor herds. True, each herd tends to exhibit different characteristics, but variation does not mean poor quality. In fact, it's kind of cool that you can look among these horses and find types suitable for any sport out there.
