Re: [RC] a perfect 100 - Joe Long

And 'we' are simply passengers.

A good post overall, but I must take exception with this. We are not
simply passengers, we are partners with our horse. Kahlil and I were
a team, and Sanshra and I are becoming a team.

I say "becoming" because it takes more than just conditioning
together, more than just a few rides together, for a horse and rider
to truly become an endurance team. There is a special bond that grows
with time, and with facing difficult challenges together. Then the
horse and rider begin to function as one, taking care of each other,
and the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Doing a
100-mile ride does wonders for that, and I think it is often a
horse/rider combination's first 100 that truly makes them a "team."

That's why I believe the "Pard'ners Award" is one of the finest and
most coveted awards the AERC gives. It recognizes this special bond,
this teamwork, in a beautiful way.
