Re: [RC] Smart horse? Or just foolish? - Sisu West Ranch
Years ago I had a mare for my older son.
Sometime before she was at our place she had a bad experience tied. I
found out from this experience a number of things:
1. Don't ever use cross ties.
2. If you are working with a horse either let it
stand untied, or, if you want, loop the lead rope through a ring and loosely
hold in your hand. If the horse fidgets a mild correction can be easily
given. If the horse freaks, let go and the horse is not
restrained.
3. I later found that "natural" horsmanship
techniques are the best way to teach standing.
4. In selected situations a belly rope can teach
standing to a horse, but not while being worked on (to much danger to all
concerned)
