Endurance won't make your horse
crazy! If you've done your homework at home (which it sounds like you have
done/are doing), then you will be just fine at the ride.
The day of the ride, you will
be more keyed up/excited (which is normal), and you being excited will translate
to your horse being more excited than he might be at home. But he will
have his good training to fall back on and will be controllable. Every
once in while, there are horses that get completely out of control, but I
suspect that their background and training have been skipped
over.
Keep doing what you are, which
is training your horse to listen to you under all sorts of situations - with
horses, without them, in front, in back, turn and ride away from them, don't
avoid scary situations at home - water, noises, cars, etc,; and when you get to
the ride, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that your horse is NOT out of
control. There is a really great set of training lessons on the SERA
website written by Jim Holland. Its amazing what great results come from
using his methods or similar ones to get the horse really certain that you are
the leader at all times and that they can trust you.

Hi, I still would like to know if Endurance
Competitions,
can make your horse just want to run. I too ride 20, 30,
miles at a time but also go 5 miles sometimes, or just
do some ring work. He is just as likely to try & act up after
20
miles, as he is 5 miles. But is pretty easily put back under
control. He is out of very good endurance blood lines.
I don't want a crazy horse, & if Competition
causes this
I would still do endurance, but at home!
Sincerely, Diane & Brazz
