Re: [AERC-Members] [RC] ? for the vets - Sisu West RanchMy context, which I did not make sufficiently clear, was related to a personal experience with a colic my horse at a ride and the discussion as to whether manditory necropsies would teach important things. It was not in reference to any particular horse death at all. I realize, (and have always realized) that medical treatment is as much an art as a science. Proper ride site treatments for colicing endurance horses are probably quite well worked out. (I still will in the future, if my horse has problems, push for IV fluids early in the treatment when I consult with the vet ) Perhaps I should have proposed a question to ridecamp vets: Do you (vets) believe that the expense of manditory necropsies would be a wise investment of the AERC's money? Iff so what would you want to learn in relation to the proper treatment of crashed horses?
