I was there yesterday working the Spook Run 50. I don't have the exact figures, but there were about 106 horses (total) that started the 50 and 25 milers. To the best of my knowledge, there were no horses treated on this day, either. The weather was perfect -- temps started out around 40 and reached a high of 75, with a nice breeze. Trail conditions were great with little mud and some rocks.
I don't have the finishing placements, but I do know that Valerie Kanavy, Karen Cummings (local girl), and a man I don't know raced off for the 50. Karen Cummings finished 1st and Valerie was 2nd. Valerie had a pretty good weekend with a 1st place in the 100 and 2nd in the 50!!!
Only problem that I heard of was a stretch of less than 2 miles on the roadside that was ribbon-sabotaged. Ride Management checked that section (known in the past for sabotage) and re-hung the ribbons 3 times before the ride. They are going to look into having the Forestry put up permanent markers on that section to prevent this from happening in the future.
All in all, I think the ride was run beautifully and most everyone seemed thrilled with the ride. It was a long day for the workers, but very rewarding as well. I'm sure you'll be hearing some stories from the riders... :)
