[RC] Getting a horse to use his hindquarters - Kristi SchaafHi all- I have a 5 yoa Arab gelding who fell and bruised a hip last year. He's been doing some LSD this year, and he isn't using his hindquarters well (possibly, but not positively, because of the old injury). No hind end propulsion = overuse of the front end = tight shoulders and neck = rib problems (found by, and according to, the equine chiro) = choppy gait (which this horse has). It sounds so simple now that I've typed it out, but it took much of this summer to figure out the probable cause and effect. Anyway, I really need to teach this guy to use his hindquarters more (assuming that his old injury LETS him), and I'm looking for some ideas on how to help him to do that. This is new to me because the only other horse I've trained uses his hind end naturally. What methods do you all use to train horses who don't use their hindquarters? Caveletti work? Uphill trotting? What? Thanks, Kristi iluvdez at yahoo dot com ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo!
