We went to the supermarket the other night and they had el-cheapo fleece blankets - 2 for $10, so I bought 5 :) (One can never not have enough fleece blankies - I figure worst case scenario, they can double as coolers at VCs. Can't beat $5 for a fleece cooler, even if it is only 50" x 60") Any-hoo, I was going to make a couple of the blankies into rump rugs, but I'm not sure how I'm going to do it. They will be pretty basic - just fleece rump rugs, not waterproof. I'm guessing I'll attach velcro straps to them, so they can be rolled up and snugged down behind the saddle when not in use. The part I haven't figured out yet is how I'm going to *attach* them to the saddle. I've seen some where the rump rug has a long "tongue" of fabric on the front which sandwiches between the top of your saddle pad and under your saddle (so it is held in place by the weight of the saddle). Not a bad idea...but then I wonder how faffy that is when you're taking the saddle on and off. I'm thinking after a few times I might rather just have it attached to the back of the saddle, ready to unfurl when needed.
