Re: [RC] [RC] Lew Hollander is an Ironman - terry banisterAnd he is how old (73??)!!As a Newbie, his was the first Endurance book "Endurance, From Beginning to Winning" I read, and it has been my touchstone. BTW, He believes in starting a well-conditioned horse in 50-milers, and not even bothering with LDs (which believe he calls demolition derbys ;-] But I started with 4 LDs anyway. Which makes me want to comment on all the recent RC discussion about stricter regulations/rules/limits, etc. for Newbies. Since many/most people starting the sport of Endurance are not "new to horses", and some may have done very much homework in the way of reading and mentoring in preparation for transitioning to Endurance, it may be an insult to them, and an expensive/complex police duty for AERC/ridemanagers to create and enforce additional rules, etc., I was wondering if it would help just to require a rider to be "sponsored" (like we do the juniors) by an AERC-approved mentor (who would receive some (points?) incentive for sponsoring a first-time rider.
