I would really resent having to do a year of LD's (and teach my horse all sorts of bad habits) since me and my horse can gain the necessary experience in another distance riding format. There are a lot of ways to ride, lots of ways to train. I'm grateful that LD is available -- particularly since I will be using the format in the coming years -- and I have no regrets for the ones I did on this horse, but I don't think I'll be using the format to start another horse. I just hate to see people forced into anything when, like Bob says, the info is out there, people just have to absorb it.
