Re: [RC] Eventers, rims, NBS - EventXCHi guys, this topic very close to the heart. First, NBS shoes (steel) are same cost as most shoes...I just bought a pair for a client at SLC tack shop. You can also order them directly from Gene Ovnicek at www.hopeforsoundess.com. Not sure on price of aluminums. Second, I have eventers on my horse (and just because I am an eventer). I jump school on grass and on race track all the time at a gallop and only put in studs if the ground is really muddy or slippery. I have never had any problems with my horse slipping. Make sure your farrier isn't sinking the nail heads too deep and isn't taking out too much frog or bars (an issue with barefoot trim folks or farriers that think they need to 'cup out' the foot for traction). I agree with Truman that the Eventer's wide web provides a very stable movement platform and some biomechanics research on force plates agrees.
