Re: [RC] [RC] [Guest] Adios/Metabolic failures@ PAC - Laurie DurginI second this. Been to little shows , in hot sun, with people staying all day with horses tired and dragged looking, I was the only one sponging, and watering my horses(after I first started reading ridecamp).Seen horses at higher rated hunter shows/eventing and alot of them might get a stall and a water bucket, but work hard / sweat, maybe get hosed. But it is true, Owners leave land go stay in motels. And sometimes the owner s are too drunk to go feed/water/check on the horses that night. . .Seen lots of dehydrated horses, at shows , events.Seen trail riders tie sweat soaked horses to a picket line, with saddles left on at one 'shared' campground, horses looked really dull and fatigued. Wonder now about horses in barns I've known(4), who were 'stalled' to death, with respriatory, lamness issues, from "weekend warrior' riders. Watched the vet come out to look at a teens jumper who had 'back problems' a week after I watched her jump him over 100 times (I counted) for 'fun', (trainer and parents weren't around.) I was shocked, I think now I would probably go say something, having 'learned more'. Amazed how many parents drop their kids at a boarding barn all day, where the trainer may not be in residence and the kids 'love their horses to death' overriding them into injury. How many cowboy types, just ride-em, and turn them out when done, not even guessing the horse is near serious trouble.. . .
