With a valid point. She has been going on about all these horses ready to die. Were these horse on IV's? What was this observation that is being touted as fact based on. Numerous riders at that level put fluids back into thier horses post ride, just for the sake of helping them replenish faster. Personally I think it is a good thing, many of these riders are vets and are qualified to do so. I know this is something practiced by some riders. The one time in his career that Kahlil had an IV, was this: he had a nice post-ride roll, then cramped in his hindquarters when he got up, so I took him to the vet. He was already walking out the cramp, but she said that as he was somewhat dehydrated, giving him fluids IV would help prevent another cramp, and at the very least make him feel better. So I agreed to give it to him. In fact, I felt pretty embarrassed at the time, because there was a video crew at the ride and they spent a lot of time taking pictures of Kahlil with the jug. I wanted to go find a hole to crawl into. Because it would have been easy for someone seeing him with the IV in his neck to say "Oh, that poor, overridden horse, he must be at death's door!" Please, let's be sure we get the facts right. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
