It could also hurt ride managers who give up riding a (their) ride in their region. If they still want points, they can make it up by riding elsewhere another weekend. It could have a negative effect on 100 miles rides. Since there are so few in each region, people may be willing to travel outside the region to do them. They may not if the points don't count. I think regional & local organization ride award programs can serve riders who don't travel far.
