[RC] 100 Mile Rides - countrysidevetI joined ridecamp because I was interested in learning more about endurance riding and how I could start to train my horse for rides. I am an experienced rider, but I have never been in any type of competitive endurance ride. I would greatly appreciate any posts on how to start a training program or any books, web sites or articles that offer advice on the best way to start training. I think to get more people involved in 100 mile rides you need to help people like myself learn how to properly condition their horses and how to start out in rides. How long should a person train before she does her first limited ride? How long do you need to be able to ride to complete a 25, 50,100 mile ride? I think there are a lot of "newbies" lurking on ridecamp like myself who need help to get started. I feel like so often the discussions on ridecamp are totally unapplicable to me because I'm just overwhelmed with starting a training program. Help people like myself to get a good start and mentor us along the way and I think you'll see a lot more riders at 100 mile rides. I have a 13 and 1/2 year old arabian mare who needs to do something that will keep the weight off and keep her mind fresh so all help, suggestions, etc. will be appreciated!!!!
