I am lucky too, my property backs to Weyerhauser/Gifford
Pinchot and gravel/dirt logging roads. Right now I don't
have a truck or trailer, so it works out ok. I can ride for
miles, lots of hills, but finding the time in the winter
and the Pacific NW rain is tough. (I'm a wuss!) 2 kids, one
with homework problems, a 40 hour per week job and a 45
min. drive either way. Right now I'm just riding on
weekends and just for 5-10 miles per ride. It helps that my
boyfriend supports me riding and does meals/kid stuff when
I need him to. When March rolls around the the daylight is
longer I'll throw in a couple of evening rides and just
come home in the dark. Since I have alot of hills, it seems
to work ok. Of course I've only just trained for 25's and
50's. Have a new(er) horse and he's only been under saddle
a year, so this schedule will help keep me from overdoing
it. By the end of July I hope to have him up to 50's. We'll
see!
