[RC] 100 mile mentors - speak up - Laura HayesI have been trying to catch up on RC reading having been gone for 10 days to Gator Run - thank goodness I have digest format, I can skim it easier! I have several comments on the 100 mile thoughts going around. First, to qualify it, I have done 10 or 12 one day 100s, though not in the last few years because I got out endurance for a while to pursue a career (dumb....) I am now ready to do it again. I even did two or three of those on horses I had NEVER ridden before, such as RC Karmen and Gashir, both belonging to Wayne McMinn who would say, " go get that grey or bay horse and saddle it up, it's ready...." So, though I think all thoughts on why the 100 milers are becoming less popular have been bandied around and are all legitimate, I am offering a SOLUTION, at least in a small way. Here goes: I am offering to 'mentor' anyone who wants to do their first 100 in a ride I can conveniently get to, and with no guarantees that I will finish, because there are no guarantees, of course, but if I get pulled (I have 71 finishes for 72 rides, BTW) I will stay on a crew for you until the bitter end. I will help you train by email, or in person if it is possible, and my husband who is an experienced ride vet, will help also. Any takers? Anyone who wants to join the Ridecamp 100 Mile Mentors?? Let's get this sport functioning to the fullest....
