Re: [RC] Trivia Question - longevity - Jeannie GillenMy horse, Desert Winds Zap, has been competing in mostly 50 milers since he was 5 years old...look him up on AERC site..... he is now 15...I have only owned him about a year and a half. I bought him for a trail horse that "could" still do endurance..the last one we did was Norco Riverdance 2002...we started at the back and finished in top 20 "fit to continue"....He is a still great horse...I backed off of endurance for many of the reasons Tiffany D'Virgilio stated......I enjoy my horse on my own trails, which consist of the Pacific Crest Trail and the Sequoia National Forest....we put 40 plus miles on Wednesday, and took most of the day to do it.....we started at 4500 feet, went to 7200 back down to 2500 and home again at 4500......It takes an endurance horse to ride in the mountains and it takes a caring partner to keep em going. Zap is also my guest horse, my babysitter and my best friend. He even does horse and bike demonstration rides for interested groups.......I know I owe most of his good nature and good health to previous owners who took good care of him........He deserves it! ----- Original Message ----- From: "DreamWeaver" <nvrider@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, September 26, 2003 5:37 PM Subject: [RC] Trivia Question - longevity I thought I'd throw this out and see how many of you guys out there in all of the various areas of the country can name the names of riders and horses who are still out there competing (into the 2003 ride season) and have been doing so for at least 10 years. You can double check by looking at the results here: http://www.doublejoy.com/erol/Individual/RiderHistory.asp I'll start off with a few..... Dave Rabe and Port Anne Sands and Mistral Dublin Hart & Wil (Tala's Design) Bonnie Way and Peco Pat Verheul and Razda Michael Tristram and Fire Away Bay Roy Cronnelly and Emirat Les Carr and Tulip Cherie Briscoe and Doc Judy Long and Warpaint These riders are all from California or Nevada. It will be interesting to see who some of the others are in other regions that I don't know. Bravo to these riders who have kept their horses going for a full decade or more! Happy trails, Karen in NV =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
