the east central coast.
in Vero Beach FL. We rarely get a freeze here, if
we did
there would not be any orange groves. Frost maybe a
total of 2 weeks during the whole winter. And that would be patchy. I always
give all the hay he can eat on the really cold nights, as the pasture in Florida
is very low in nutrients.
My Vet. who is a holistic Vet. had me add
the salt during cold weather & it works, for my Arab. I am going to try
changing to a sweet feed this winter, as I always feed pellets, to see if this
will help too. In the summer, I really don't care about a sunburned coat, I am
thankful he is Bay,
& has a much less chance of getting skin
cancer, which also happens allot around here. I would love to know if he would
grow a winter coat if I ever moved farther north.
IMHO, genetics & climate make a big
difference. We have to worm more often, we have to feed less hot feeds, &
allot of us have to blanket our horses to keep them comfortable,
