He had to drain the fluid off the knee 2x and he got adequan shots( to help replace the fluid, I think it was adequan, ). he had to check the knee a couple times to make sure the infectin was gone and the fluid was clear and thick (as oppossed to blood/pus in it.) It healed with stall rest. But the 'stretched synovial membrane' is like a balloon. So even thought his knee is fine now ,it it puffy and ugly, cause it is overstretched and it really doesn't go back.It is like a bog spavin, oir windpuffs on the knee for him. If we hadn't treated it, it would /could have caused permanent damage to the cartilege (started breaking it down). He said he may need injections from time to time to compete asa a hunter, but it is considered just a cosmetic blemish once healed (in spite of the ,"oohh, what is wrong with his knee?" ,'s we get.A vet could tell you better, but we were told he'd get arthritis there eventually.(not yet after 2 years on xrays and he is in mid-late teens). I would think chronic means they have it all the time or it is ongoing. I would think you'd want to get inflamation down, or it starts to effect the cartliedge/joints etc. The synovial fluid lubricates the joints, so inflamation there, we were told sets up for arthritis of the joints.
