Re: [RC] Rider Option - David & Maggie(p.s. steph noticed the choke within minutes, Sarah Metcalf cleared it easily. He was sedated during the clearing (nose tube/flush - into the stomache/light flush). It was pretty minor, solid food withheld for 2 hours - he's fine now.) John, My Secret can choke on air. Drives me nuts. We've gotten really good at clearing it without drugs. It takes some massaging of the throat, squirting some water in her with the elyte syringe, then encouring her to put her head down to the ground while massaging her throat. Sometimes we have to repeat this a couple of times. We've only had to call the vet once. He wanted to tube her without sedation. I just said, "Well, ok, but I'm going to stand waaay over there. And by the way, do you have 911 on your cell phone speed dial?" She did very well, after sedation! She probably should be scoped to see why this is happening. For the time being, we can prevent her choking with careful feeding. She only chokes on grain. We feed her the large diameter pellets mixed in any grain we give her. Makes her slow down and chew.
