Re: [RC] Electrolytes/Rump Rugs - Truman PrevattAfter an experinece I had last winter, I don't use the pre mixed. I use P&W and mix it the day prior the the ride. I use about 3 parts malox to two parts P&W and give about 60 to 70 cc of this about every hour - stopping between checks to do this usually when we stop for water. I fill old Lyte Now syringes with the mixture and carry it with me. If it's cool I forgo the dose between the start and the first check if the first check is 15 or so miles.I find that while getting off and giving electrolytes is somewhat a pain, my excited horse is more likely to chill out and dring than if I would come up to the water still mounted. So the stopping for a one minute break has a few advantages. That's the way I do it. Truman Kari Hanes wrote: I would like to know what others are using for electrolytes. The brand, type (paste/powder/granules,liquid) and dosage. Also how often you dose and if you mix with anything (like applesauce/yogurt). As my ride season is coming to an end, I would like to start looking towards next season and making a few changes. I was also wondering if there's a website I can go to for the basics of making my own rump rugs and possibly horse blankets. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
