Re: [RC] Adios - Heidi SmithFair enough, but unless Darolyn would like to publicly discuss the details her e'lyting protocol (and I hope she does), then there is no basis for judging whether Adios was overelectrolyted or not. My gut feeling, like Darolyn's is...not. In fact, given that Adios seemed to have been a very high octane horse, herd bound and nervous, then I would strongly suspect that adrenaline release and the hormonal effect on gut motility, had at least a significant part in what happened. I'm sure that adrenaline release, hormonal effect, how sensitive the individual's gut is to all that, etc. play major roles. But I do think we need to look at how we deliver e-lytes to horses in general, which is not commenting on Darolyn's case in particular. As someone else said--it isn't any one thing, it is a cumulative effect of many.
