[RC] Can YOU run after you tank up? - Gary DanielsHi guys: Darolyn - I am so sorry for your loss. I never met you, but I've heard your name many times. You must be going through a very sad time right now. I am an ex-athlete, representing the US in different Int'l venues in the very recent years prior to starting something more enjoyable - endurance. Whenever I used to train and push myself to the limits, I experienced an immense amount of thirst, and just when my stomach was so full that I couldn't drink anymore, I still was thirsty. My body kept craving fluids. Well, horses aren't that different, folks. It's about common sense - if we allow our horses to push themselves to that point, it very well may be a point of no return. We get stuck trying to come up with formulas, forcing electrolytes down our horses' throats to make them continue doing something they very well may not enjoy doing at that particular time. Even in FEI competitions, we need to find out what that fine line is where our horses are asking for our help. Please, folks, LISTEN to your horses - pay attention. Pay less attention to the formulas as to what exact mileage one should do to prepare a horse in training rides, how many electrolytes to give. Listen to your horse and get him through these rides not only sound, but also HAPPY. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
