Re: [RC] WNV SHOTS - powergaitAmber, I'm on several breeding lists. Out of everyone I have talked to that has given the WNV vaccines to mares in various stages of pregnancy or lactating, NO ONE had a bad reaction or problems with a foal. I had to decide whether or not to vaccinate my pregnant mare. I vaccinated her in her fourth month and while she was lactating. She had no reaction. Her colt was born fine and hasn't had any problems. In fact, he's been vaccinated too. My vet hasn't seen one bad reaction to the vaccination, and neither has his colloegues. As my vet said, if your horse get WNV, the million dollar question is, "How much is your horse worth to you." Because most cases cost a small fortune to treat, and you could still lose your horse. My advice is for people to listen to their vets (like Susan G.), not newspaper articles or unofficial internet websites. It's still a hard decision for most folks to make.
