RE: [RC] Very important message about WNV SHOTS - Karen WilliamsI'm really in a quandry when it comes to vaccines. I want to do want's best for my animals, but I just hate having them vaccinated. I just don't see why they have to be vaccinated every 6 months. I've heard that people who were given smallpox vaccines 30-40 years ago still show immunity to the disease. I stopped vaccinating my dogs every year years ago. The only vaccine they get is rabies (required by law). Now I hear that vets are backing away from the "you must have shots every year" to vaccinating every 3 years. I also have a problem with FD vaccines. One of my horses is like the walking dead for two weeks after receiving FD vaccines. Last year I told my vet "no FD vaccines". Of course, they are the only one who makes WNV *is* FD, so after a lot of "should I/shouldn't I" conversations with myself, I told the vet to go ahead and give him the WNV vaccine. That's the only site where he was horribly sore and was unridable for about two weeks. I won't give it to him again. Do titers work on horses? Wouldn't it be better to test them to see what immunities they have before pumping all this stuff into them they maybe don't need?
