[RC] Hurricane/Biltmore - Jim HollandIt's not just the wind...it's the torrential rains. The ground gets so saturated, when the FRONT half of the hurricane comes through, that tree root structures become unstable. When the eye passes over, the rain and wind from the back half of the hurricane just pushes them over. Most of the downed trees are caused by unstable root structures caused by flooding, not from just wind. If you are attending Biltmore, don't be mislead by the fact that it is inland...the PROBLEM is RAIN....and Biltmore floods easily because it is river bottom land. Make your own decision whether to attend or not...but just be aware that this is a BIG hurricane...where the eye passes is not the issue. If you get run over by a truck, doesn't matter whether you get hit by the right front fender or the left...the results are the same. I'm gonna decide at the last minute.....it's a trailering issue as well.
