RE: [RC] Shoeing School - Jonni JewellI do understand your frustrations with the farrier issue. I had the same farrier in CA for almost 25 years, then we moved to TX, and I went through 3 before I found one I am happy with. I have hauled to his house (80 miles one way) but usually we schedule the same time he does a friends horses, so I trailer over there (25 miles one way). I live out in the sticks, and he would rather not drive out this far for just my horses, and I am fine with that. As you know, a good farrier is worth their weight in gold. I have never considered doing my own over the years. I figure they go to school and in my case, they have many years of experience to take the best care of my horses feet. As said, no hoof, no horse. But you made one statement that kind of hit me: I want to nail on the equiflex shoes - have them all ready to do-- but concerned I will quick my horse.. going to try this on my older mare.. Jaye Perry shoes Omni.. I would NOT try to do him<<< I am sure you did not mean it this way, but it sounds like if you "quicked" the older mare, it would not be so bad.....if you have any concerns or fears of doing it wrong, I would say then don't. You need to have the confidence that you are trained and ready to nail on a shoe. If you don't feel confident to nail on on Omni, then why would you nail it on ANY horse? That make sense? Just my $.02 worth. Jonni in TX =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
