[RC] PAC2003 - :) - johnt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxOk, that was a bit brief. But I'm afraid it will be till the 40 mile mark. Basically, were I to summarize the first loop: 1 - it was actually not too dark when they started, the light was coming up enough to safely negotiate the funnel into the two track roady leaving camp. It wasn't a controlled start, but it did seem to me that a calm was upon most of the mob as they started off. 2 - The loop (20 miles) was basically completed in 2 hours by 40% of the ride (+/- 30 minutes). There was a group of 4 in the lead at @7:50, followed by a group of 20 or so at about 8:00 (+/- again). Basically, as RM Stephanie Irving let on last evening, this ride is a "make it through the first 40 by riding sanely" and then use the middle 40 to make up good time so that you don't have to do too much of the last 20 in the dark (which is really slow in the big trees - or not depending on sanity levels:) So they are all off from the first vet check. Off to "Pipeline" (the 40 mile check - again a 50 minute hold and then on (at speed:) to King vet check which is where I sit now. We'll see what shakes. There were 89 starters. There have been a moderate number of pulls (2) but need to get official notice etc. The team standings will start to shape up when they get to pipeline - to my knowledge right now all teams are still at max. strength. So pictures will follow in a few minutes - better than words or silly intimes when everyone is basically coming in at the same time (a lame excuse for not having the details....:( jt. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
