[RC] Endurance Driving - Aaron TurnageI'm by no means any expert since I've only attended one ride... but here's some info on Endurance Driving. There is a "National" organization called NEDA that sanctions and holds rides. They allow both drivers and "outriders" (regular riders). The rules seem to be pretty simple. Must have at least one person per horse (ie if you drive a team, you need to have at least one person per horse in the cart). And let me tell you, those carts are FAST and AGILE!!! The top drivers usually beat the top riders times, sometimes by 1/2 hour or more! I "think" it's less effort for the horse, would you rather carry or pull in a cart a 50 lb sack? The "carts" are actually more like little chariots with inflatable rubber tires (think ATV) and a small seat. Some of the teams use larger wagon-type carts but honestly, they can handle a WIDE variety of terrain. For more info and some pics, go to www.neda.homestead.com Crysta P.S. If you live in the N NV/CA area or MI area, I know there are sanctioned rides nearby. It's a fun little group and the costs are really low to attend! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
