Re: [RC] [Guest] Horse Death at Owhyee Ride - John TeeterSteph is collecting all the info/materials for the AERC Vet committee to look over. That process will work it's way through and Dr. Baldwin will put the final report together for the AERC board. She's not around for the rest of the day so I'll fill in. Dean Hoalst's horse, LDJ Phantum, showed signs of colic after his finish and completion of the day 2 55 mile ride over Toy Mountain. I wasn't around for all the details (and maybe they should be formally put in the Vet Committee report rather than out on the net), but I guess everyone thought things were fine till about 2am or so when sever colic symptoms began. Phantum was taken to the Idaho Equine Center where he was evaluated and put down later in the morning. It was a very sad time for all involved. I'd caution that "We heard that someone overrode their horse and it had to be put down...." is a very broad comment. johnt At 02:48 PM 9/2/2003, Ridecamp Moderator wrote: Angie Sanderson jagsnhorses@xxxxxxx =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
