[RC] Flower essences - Roberta Jo LiebermanNot to shatter any fantasies, but given that you just give a horse a few drops of the stuff in a bucket of water, I doubt VERY much that there is enough brandy to have any effect on anyone's nervous system. More like homeopathy than regular medicine, but it's a staple around here for any type of creature that is really upset, from birds to teenagers to horses. Seems to help, but I can't say why.< Maryanne's right. Only a few drops are typically given to achieve an effect and it can also be given via spray bottle, diluting it even further. Flower essences can also be purchased in distilled water rather than brandy. Many folks carry a vial in their truck's glove compartment -- RR can be invaluable in the event of trauma or shock. Rescue Remedy and other flower essences are considered "vibrational" healing remedies. As with homeopathy, the original substance is diluted to the point that it is most often considered nonexistent. However, according to its proponents, there is a "vibrational imprint" left in the solution that affects the cells much like a tuning fork. Its effects are largely in the emotional realm....thus its ability to calm. For those concerned about adhering to the letter of the "no drug" rule, there is a simple solution: Just take a few drops of Rescue Remedy yourself before any situation that's potentially stressful for you or your horse. It will probably work just as well...
