Re: [RC] claming agents that won't test positive, know any? and problems wi... - DESERTRYDR1A few years ago, when I was giving my horse various substances such as glucosamine and MSM, I called and asked the head of the vet committee his opinion. I don't remember who was the head of the committee at that time, but I got his machine and left a message, and he graciously called me back. We talked a bit, and his advice was to withdraw everything except feed and vitamins in normal amounts at least 96 hours before the ride. That's my rule to this day. Two more comments: At that time, I was a newbie, and was just shocked and thrilled that the HEAD OF THE AERC VET COMMITTEE would take the time to call back! It just points out how accessible our officers, board members, etc. really are. The names, phone numbers, addresses and email addys are in the front of every Endurance News. The other comment refers to Vitamin B1, also known as Thiamine, which has several effects on some horses, including calming, and increasing appetite and food utilization. This substance is prohibited in other than usually-available-in-food amounts because it tests and is considered a masking substance for something else (I don't know what). Hope this answers some questions. jeri =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
