[RC] Oral fistulas - Dyane SmithOn Tuesday, July 22, 2003 6:40 PM, "Susan Garlinghouse, DVM" <suendavid@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote on the subject of sialoliths: If it were my horse, I'd just have that puppy cut outta there once and for all. The primary complication discussed is a fistula if the gland duct isn't closed up properly (a fistula is just kinda like a balloon forming from liquid that has nowhere else to go). So, just make sure the vet doing the procedure is a surgeon that knows that. :-) Is there any other way a horse could get an oral fistula? Is there any treatment? My 25 yr. old gelding, Suni, has a fistula that suddenly appeared in the very back of his jaw behind the rearmost molars, where the jaw hinges (inside the mouth). No one can figure out where it came from or what to do about it. I took him to Davis, they did x-rays and a CT scan and decided not to do surgery because of the location. Basically, I'm very fine with no surgery, but what is the treatment?
