[RC] Stall Rest - Tamara Taylor

In the past we had a portable stall that we moved to a new patch of grass
every
day. It was set up in the pasture so the horse could graze a little and be in
the open air near his friends but still confined and restricted in terms of
movement. We were able to drag it around by a truck or tractor. It was
a 'mobile maternity pen' for calving out cows but I am sure any portable
corral
would suffice. He seemed a lot happier with this arrangement than in a
boxstall
24 hours per day.

Would your horse like a little goat buddy?? We used to raise pygmy goats and
they are good company for a lonesome horse. A regular horse halter fits over
their body like a harness if you needed to tie them (they would surely
escape a
pipe corrall and head for the nearest garden ;o), so long as the horse
wouldn't
harm the goat.

Hope this helps.

I once used my Farnam portable corral, originally purchased for camping,
to make an open-air stall in the barnyard for an injured horse that
couldn't stand being isolated in a stall. He stayed in that small corral
for 2 weeks with no problems. We placed it close to a pasture so he felt
like he was with the horses in that pasture. If you have that option for
at least part of the day, your horse will probably be happier.
