Re: [RC] claming agents that won't test positive, know any? - Karen Sullivan

Bob points out the stated  plants in Rescue Remedy are not natural forage plants for horses.....and I want to add the following:  Common names are extremely non-specific.  For example, there are different species impatiens, and hybrid impatiens.  There are also different species rock rose and clematis, often found on different continents....so it is ESSENTIAL to deal with specific, latin, botanical names!  You can also have plants from different plant families that are known by the same common name! What is found in one specific species may not occur in another species!  Therefore, that list if Rescue Remedy is extremely vague, and that can become dangerous......

Here is my story on that:  I have run two native plant nurseries, and ALWAYS label plants by specific species name.  It is both a point of pride, and STATE law!  I was known by our county Ag department as a person who had some knowledge of native plans, although I was hardly an expert, and no botanist.  My name was given to the Master Gardener program, as a reference oerson on native plants.  One day I got a call from them, asking about a plant that had "poisoned a lady.".  This lady had apparently read some book about herbal remedies, that claimed that "Spanish Moss" cured some sort of malady.  She then went out (in northern Calif), and pulled stuff off a oak tree that looked like Spanish Moss, and brewed up a tea.  Unfortunately, Spanish Moss occurs in the south east, and is a member of the bromeliad family (a tillandsia).  The stufff in California that sort of looks like spanish moss is some species of Lichen, a totally different plant.  This ignorant lady, who was led astray from some "herbal remedy" non-scientific book, was lucky she was only made extremely sick.

But....think of all the well-meaning but ignorant folks that use this stuff on animals, totally based on testimonials and hype.....

So, unless something is scientifically tested, and any plant substances labeled by specific SPECIES, then one is only being gullible to use this stuff.....

As pointed out in a previous post

Rescue Remedy contains vibrational essences from:

  • Impatiens -

  • Star of Bethlehem -

  • Cherry Plum -

  • Rock Rose -

  • Clematis

Show me a pasture with these plants! They are  not the normal constituent of any pasture nor are most "herbal" concoctions.

Bob
