In the early days the horse I am now riding would come unglued at
endurance rides. My wife was riding him then and at one ride someone
asked me how much insurance I had taken out on her.
Someone suggested this stuff to take the edge off and I was riding him
for her at the time and I noticed that it had an effect on his heart
rate ( a good reason to ride with a monitor ). When we would slow down
his heart rate took longer to come down with it than without it.
So that's the last time we used it. From my experience - test or not it
has a drug effect and potentially an adverse effect for an endurance
ride. I would not advise using it.

I had some interesteing results with
that stuff. I have a horse who is an absolute nervous wreck in the
trailer and is dripping wet inside of 10 minutes in there. Funny thing
is, she gets right in and will stand there as along as you are in there
with her. You leave and she comes unwound. Anyway, it had the opposite
affect on her. Wound her up tighter. There's always an exception to the
rule, I guess!
Does anyone know if Calm & Cool will test drug postive for
endurance rides? If so, is there any other type of stuff that will
work that won't test postive? I have a young horse that just needs the
edge taken off for the trailer ride.
