Speaking only for the equine necropsies done at Colorado State, the charge was around $125-150, I think. We did a *very* thorough exam, every organ looked at in extreme detail, but that was partly because it was a learning issue for us. In practice, it could be more than that given the time involved. However, speaking only for myself, if a horse died at a ride, I think I would just recruit some help and get it done.
