Re: [RC] Shoes or No Shoes... - Truman PrevattHow the horse wears his feet barefoot is how he should have been shod. If he naturally squares off his toes in the back the back shoe should at least be moved back or even squared off a bit. If you don't do this he will probably forge. If the front toes are nubbed off when he is bearfoot then the front shoe should be at laest set back and maybe nubbed off to match his foot. We had a horese that when we put shoes on to start to ride a lot would pull a shoe at two weeks. We pulled the shoes and rode him - we stayed off the hard pack and rode in the sand - for three months. I kept his feet from chipping. He didn't really need trimmed since the sand does a pretty good job keeping the feet down. After about 3 months we told the farrier to look at the feet and shoe him like he is. It turns out that NBS shoes fit this front feet perfectly and we squared off and set the hing shoes back. He hasn't pulled a shoe since. So I suspect you dramatically (not to you but to the horse) changed his feet and you might need to pull them and start over in the process - this time paying very close attention what his feet are telling you before you shape the shoes.
