My friends horse died cuz her saddle turned under
the belly coming down a hill & the horse got his foot thru the stirrup &
broke his leg. The breast collar might have kept the saddle from turning
as far under...
I operated a pack string
and hunting guide outfit for several years. Worked ranches and cattle outfits
most of my life. Have ridden in country as rough as it comes.
Always used breast collars, and crupers, always will. Can't say I
remember any 'major' catostrophys caused by having one. But I can remember
several wrecks I have seen other folks have caused by not having them.

We have heard from Heidi about " many wrecks caused by breast
collars ", and after having horses for 40 years, I must not ride where
she does, as I truly have not seen any breast collars cause wrecks, get
caught on things etc. etc. Have I just been lucky? Are there others here
on Ridecamp that have seen wrecks and accidents caused by breast collars?
I know we often learn, by others misfortune. I would be curious to hear
how often others have seen problems from properly adjusted, and fitting
breast collars, used on
trail horses.
