[RC] Vet 54 where are you??? - Karen J Zelinsky

Okay, got a question that perhaps many people have - at least on the east
coast this year, i.e., perhaps weather-related ...??

I just worked on (massaged) a local horse (central PA) that was SO
extremely tight in the back that she probably set a record, but the
contributing factor could well have been that she's turned out every
night with NO shelter - and LOTS OF ETERNAL RAIN in this neck of the
woods (we just had something like 4-6 " in a couple of hours a couple of
days ago, but it is constantly HHH (hazy, hot and humid) between the
drops - what else is new? :(( Anyhow, this filly was covered in bumps
almost all over the body - especially the back, rear, and lower legs.
The bumps seem like hives, and the slightest friction over them causes
her to cringe in those areas, and the ones on the lower legs seem to
practice superation (sp?), i.e., oozing. And some of the other horses
turned out with her have this also. I have noticed the bumpy, oozy,
leg-zone bumps at other barns. Could this be an allergy? Rain rot? Any
ideas? I am feeling kinda dumb, but my gut feeling is rain rot - seems
like where the rain would hit, and the water would splash up..... help!

Thank you, vets, et al.!!

Karen in PA
