Re: [RC] [RC] How do I train my horse to be braver? - Deanna GermanAmanda, Your advice is good for training a beginning trail horse or retraining one that has lost confidence for some reason. Not exactly what I was after. I can ride this horse at a 7 - 10 mph pace for 25 or 30 miles while getting the snot beat outta me with the spooking and I don't get tired or sore. It's that last 20 - 25 miles that really has me diving for the ibuprophen!! And worrying about making time. A 7 - 10 mph pace is faster than I thought it was when I started this sport. Angie's right, one of the best things an aspiring endurance rider can do for themselves is find some terrain that is measured correctly. Or get and learn to use a GPS like April. >ggg< (See, I'm not totally gadget adverse.) Oh, and one of the best things an aspiring endurance rider can do is GET THEE TO AN ENDURANCE RIDE. Now that you have a trailer, Amanda, just do it! BTW, most of the advice I got from experienced riders is to just stick with this mare as she matures, to grin and bear it until she gets some miles on her. OK, I can deal with that, I just needed to know this too shall pass. (I hope, I hope, I hope...) TTFN Deanna ---------------------------------------------- I haven't seen any response to this post (on the archives, at least), so I'll take a crack at it. The problem is a horse that spooks and doesn't want to move out on the trail alone. One approach to this problem..... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= http://www.endurance.net/ads/seabiscuit.html Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
