I'm with Frank. Aside from the truly clueless, there are, IMHO, way more 
people who will take unacceptable risks with their horses' well being for 
reasons that have nothing to do with money than there are those who figure 
they'll sell the horse for big bucks  afterwards. (And that phenomenon is 
not limited to distance riders...)
