[RC] I'd prefer Rattlesnakes......... - Jonni JewellMoved from CA to TX. Had Rattlers on the trails in CA, and at least they let you KNOW they were there. Here we have Rattlers, but I have yet to see any on the trails etc. But we do have Copperheads, which lay quiet, do not move out of the way, and one day I had one striking at the horse that I did not notice until the horse froze with it next to him. Then we have Water Moccasins. We have some in our back pond, but the horses normally do not go back there to water. They are an aggressive snake, that WILL chase you. We do shoot them. There is a fence they hang on that runs through part of the pond. Yes, you can get one with a .22 if you are a good shot! <grin> I am glad my horses seem to pay attention to snakes on the trail, so hopefully they do not get to close to one of those darn Copperheads. Had to do a quick halt last night and go a side trail around one that was across the trail...just waiting...LOL Yep, I prefer the Rattlesnakes. Like to hear them in case I was actually enjoying the scenery, instead of looking out at the trail in front of my horse every inch of the way.
