Re: [RC] "I can't get the snakes out of my pasture." - Heidi SmithAs they do at my place; although I don't shoot them. Mostly I use a 2x4. I have, in fact, killed five rattlesnakes in the last month, Likewise, the rattlers here around the "homestead" get killed, and those out and away get ignored. (And non-venomous snakes are welcome anywhere, anytime.) We've killed three around home this month, and have had one hosre snakebitten (fortunately ours aren't as potent as some of the varieties elsewhere). And I don't shoot them either--irrigation shovel is my favorite weapon, but a good stout stick or big rocks do just fine. Had one neighbor coming down our drive that stopped and got out to shoot one--he shot 7 times, and I went down to see what the shooting was all about.... Didn't realize my other neighbor was down there changing water--got down there to find him laughing his head off--he said, "Yeah, after 7 shots, he STILL had to come borrow my irrigating shovel!"
