Re: [RC] Let's just give everyone an award.... - Barbara McCrary
No, you are not alone in your
feelings. I remember receiving a rock once, for being last in a
ride. It was the mare's first ride and she finished. I treasure that
rock. I wrote the mare's name and the ride and date on the bottom and
still have it. Who needs fancy awards when you have a good horse and a
world to explore?
Subject: [RC] Let's just give everyone an
award....
Is it just me that feels this way?..Let's just give everyone an award for
being a member of AERC or for ever riding a horse or whatever, and then the
rest of us can go do endurance rides because we LOVE it, not because we need
recognition at a ceremony (locally, regionally or nationally). Just the
fact that I complete a ride on a horse I love, on a trail I love, with people
I love, means more to me than any award I've ever received. Do I
treasure my seven Big Horn 100 buckles? Yes. But if they held the
ride next year and didn't give me anything but a pat on the back as I crossed
the finish line, I'd be there. Do I count my miles and add up my points
on the years I'm lucky enough to be in the standings? Of course!
But it has NOTHING to do with WHY I do endurance riding. I'm just
not relating very well to all of this stuff this week. Maybe the heat
and marking, then pulling, 100 miles of trail has damaged my brain even
further?! Cindy
