[RC] Borium on Shoes - Tina RushingI use borium (extra fine) on the rear toes in the summer. We ride on a lot of asphalt, but the real reason I use it is decomposed granite. When DG is hard and dry it is like walking on little ball bearings. Steep downslopes (we call them ride n' sliders) are most thrilling. Going up is not a problem. Initially I used borium at 3 points on all four shoes, but I have found that just the rear toes is sufficient. Coarse borium (fine was too coarse) was hard on my trailer mats, extra (ultra?) fine was better. I haven't ridden the upper part of the Tevis trail but I have ridden some rock-hopper trails in the rugged granite mountains near Strawberry and Dodge Ridge. My horse is nimble and confident on slick rock. Most important: good farrier. If mine retires I'll be lost. I was wondering if anyone had used Borium on their shoes before a rocky ride like the Tevis? I was wondering if that would cause too much drag, and be detrimental, or if it would be offset by the added grip when climbing rocks... We do so much riding on hilly asphalt roads, that sometimes I wonder if I would like a = little Borium for my day to day riding also. Comments?
