[RC] [Guest] How well saddles hold up to 100s (an Ansur answer) - Ridecamp GuestMary Kornwolf vgea@xxxxxxxxx Sorry for the delay in replying about how my Ansur is holding up to 100s! Any saddle will of course last a lot longer if you clean and store it properly between uses. I spent a lot of $$ on the Ansur and plan to protect my investment accordingly. Here in the humid SE, keeping saddles inside (in the AC) keeps leather from mildewing or baking and drying out. The Ansur has held up well to over 1000 miles of riding, including 3 100s, 6 50s and a full seaosn of foxhunting. There is a loss of sheen on the back of the panels where my boots rub, and I initially used LOTS of leather goop while breaking in the leather to be flexible. If anything is going to wear out, it is the billets (they're already stretching a bit but should be fine for another few years) and I may try to replace them with biothane ones... My old Sharon Saare had much thicker leather but after 6 years of continuous riding in all weather, the fenders wore out and would cost much more to replace than the billets on the Ansur. I would argue no saddle will last "forever" if used continuously for endurance. One more comment...Since the Ansur is so light, it is less bother for me to bring inside & clean and also costs less to ship for repairs. BTW, a 5 gallon bucket nailed against a wall makes a perfect "saddle rack" for the Ansur to keep the panels from getting all warped.
