Re: [RC] Mosquitos, Horse flies, and gnats Oh MY!!! - powergaitWe started feeding Flax seed to our itchy horses. We bought a 50# bag of whole seeds. Put them in a small coffee grinder for about 3 seconds to make them more easily digestable. This should put more oil in their coats and build up their immunity to allergies. We built up the amount slowly and found that both horses showed relief at 2/3 C daily. If the gnats continue to chew on your horses, you could add garlic as a top dressing on their grain. This helps them to repel the gnats. P. I am calling out for help cause my horse and I are getting eaten alive out here in Oregon. My poor horse has welts all over him from the bug bites, and I have continually sprayed him as well as having a block in his pasture which is supposed to help prevent flies and such but it's not working. Anyone have some good recipes for fly spray or what I can put in his feed to help with this.. it's driving me nuts but at least I can itch my spots..and put on medicine.. *Itch Itch* Wendy Hopping =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
