On the contrary, HYPP is not a simple recessive--it is a trait where the heterozygous horses (N/H) are frequently affected, but on average are not as severely affected as the homozygous (H/H) individuals. Personally, I wouldn't care to ride an N/H horse on anything that requires long-term physical effort--I've had to deal with too many of 'em clinically, and they can be heartbreaking.
